Overheard in Chicago

Overheard at a local bakery between a Gay Twink, his Mom and Two Bears.

Mom (holding tray filled with gross looking pastries): Oh look at those, they look yummy. We should get some of those.

Bears (with tray filled with delicious looking pastries): Oh they are good, you should try them!

Mom: And don't worry, Cheetah Gym is right down the street

Bears:  Oh, I've heard of that mythical place

Twink: (Rolls eyes)
Oh My! It is a glorious day that the babvy Jesus has given us. It almost wants to make me repent my sins, but I won't.

You're never more than 5 minutes away from Chocolate Cake

I got together with my friends Marc & Fausto from the Feast Of Fun and we made this quick and easy 5-minute Chocolate Cake.

My Cousin in Sweeden - Hey Kristen - sent me this email and I knew that Marc & Fausto love chocolate so I just had to share the recipe with them.

The cake was actually quite good - which pissed me off because now I know that I'll never be more than 5-minutes away from Chocolate Cake - damn it!!!!

Note to self: Although hair gel & Astroglide look the same, they don't act the same.
Those fab boys from Feast of Fun invited me over to tape a show, you know you need a laugh today! Check it out:

Price Relief?

The local grocery store is heavily advertising their current promotion "The Big Relief" price cut promotion.

They're trying to show their "corporate goodwill" by saying "Hey, we're here to help you by cutting prices up to 20%" but really what are they saying?

Grocery prices have been creeping ever so slightly over the last few years, either by actual price increases or corporations downsizing their product (grocery shrink ray) and charging the same amount - thusly inducing a price hike.

I was wondering how long it was going to take for the grocery stores and food producers were going to cave in, they've been charging more and more while using the same excuse that "well gas is high so everything else is more expensive" well gas has been down to around $2.10 a gallon for quite some time - down from the drastic $4.00+ we saw (and yes I know I shouldn't bitch because our European brothers and sister pay WAY more for gas than we do - it's just that, well "that's what we're used to, it's not our fault"). Regardless, I think it's funny that they're pushing that "they're the good guys"

Really, I take it as "Hey, we've been f*cking you around for the past few years by raising prices on the backs of lame excuses so we're gonna give you a break now. So come on back to us, because we're gonna screw you less than the other guy does"

I love it that the Grocery Store has my back : -)
Note to self: When cruising boys remember that glasses ARE NOT the same as sunglasses.

Living on the Edge

Ok, who's coming to visit me so I can take them to the new "Ledge" at Sears I mean Willis Tower?
Oh, who am I kidding, I'm a tourist in my own city. I couldn't tell you how many times I've been stopped in this city with questions of "oh where are you from?" or "Do you like Chicago?" I guess it's because I always have my camera ready and I enjoy doing all the touristy things in Chicago.
Who says that toursity things are only for tourists? Shouldn't one enjoy the city they live in, regardless of where it is? People from around the world come to Chicago on vacation - just like we did for Amsterdam. So I always act like a tourist when I'm out and about enjoying this fabulous city.
But I have digressed, haven't I? In an attempt to rebrand itself from "Sears Tower" to "Willis Tower" and to also give them another reason to put themselves in the news....they are adding a new glass skydeck to the already existing observation deck at the Sears Tower.
It reminds me recently added observation deck they added to the Grand Canyon that lets you walk out and over it.....I for one can't wait for this deck to arrive so I can go check it out....even if it does cost $15 bucks to go up is an amazing site to behold!
Who wants to go with me?
What a way to start the day, almost getting run over while out for coffee:

Multi-tasking for nothing

Sorry, I have to rant!

I've been awake for less than an hour this morning and I've already had run-ins with three different drivers.

The first was a driver coming the other way who turned right (as I was making a legal left turn) and then cut me off in the two lane road because she thought she was a NASCAR Driver and needed both lanes to complete her turn.

Next it was a lady who was in a hurry to get her coffee and felt it was very important to cut me off (now a pedestrian) and swerve in front of me so she could then pull up 8 feet to stop in line - which forced me to walk AROUND her car instead of continuing on my sidewalk path.

Finally, as I was walking back to the office I was once again confronted with a stupid driver who was stopped at a traffic light but thought that the white line painted on the road was where the END of the car goes and not the front - and the driver behind her felt the need to pull right up to her bumper so that NONE of the pedestrians in the crosswalk could navigate the legal right of way.

What is up with Drivers?  Why is everyone in a hurry?  Are people that bad at time scheduling that they are constantly late and that they don't care about anyone else?  I thought I saw it all the other day when I saw someone driving but also smoking a cigarette, drinking a coffee AND holding a cellphone up to their ear (with the opposite hand - you know the right hand holding the phone up the left ear)....I was wondering how in the world are you driving if all of your hands are full, it's obvious that you're not paying attention to the road.

The kicker of all kickers though, is a woman driver this past weekend killed a motorcylcist get this....she was painting her fingernails while driving.  Her G** D*** fingernails!!!  Because this woman couldn't scheulde her time properly OR even consider that "painting your fingernails while driving was wrong" a person is dead.

You want to know what's even crazier - she was "ticketed...(by) police with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident" A ticket....not felony reckless driving or murder....a ticket....for failing to reduce speed.  So that's what we've been reduced to as a society.  You can kill someone with your car and you'll just get a ticket.

What is wrong with this country that we need to install Red Light Camera's at intersections to catch people who can't follow the law, a country where we need to enact laws to tell people "Don't talk on your phone while you drive."

New York City recently enacted that law and issued almost 10,000 tickets in a 24-hour period crackdown - yet Chicago has had the same law in effect for almost 4 years now and yet they don't write as many tickets in a year as as NYC police did in a single day!

Recently Chicago upped the ante on the tickets for drivers who use cellphones.  The ticket used to be $75 and they took your license and you were forced to go to Traffic Court to retrieve it, but now the ticket is $100 and if you're involved in an accident the fine is $500.

But what use is an increased fine if the police don't follow the law and ticket offenders?

I guess people figure "oh well, I'll just pay the ticket because it's worth it." Think what you could do with an extra $100 in this economy?  Uhm, groceries for a few weeks, a little extra on the car note or mortgage?

Come on people, put the nail polish and latte down, put the cellphone down and put both hands on the wheel - PAY ATTENTION  Arrive Alive you stupid drivers!

Oh yeah, and sometime overnight 2 people were killed in a hit-and-run accident as they were crossing the street.  Oh it's great to live in the city!
